Before I give up on GitHub, can someone help me get my website live?

Hello everyone,

I am trying to get my website live with GitHub Pages, but I am close to giving up. 😭 I bought my domain mixedsaladcomic.com from IONOS, and the DNS settings are correct. GitHub Pages even shows “DNS check successful”, but my page is still dead (404 error).

I already checked everything:

✅ GitHub Pages is enabled (Settings → Pages → “Deploy from a branch”)
✅ Branch is set to main
✅ index.html is in the root folder (not in /docs/)
✅ CNAME file exists and contains “mixedsaladcomic.com”
✅ Cache cleared, tested in incognito mode
✅ Multiple deployments triggered, all successful (green checkmarks in Actions)
✅ HTTPS is enabled

Still, nothing works. 😡 I am really a beginner and have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe GitHub Pages just hates me? 😅

If someone has an idea what I could try, I would be super grateful! 🙏

Better use CF Tunnels, they are free and without limits and you can put it up from your own local PC, you only need the domain.

Your deployment is correct, but the path to access your website's index.html is:
https://mixedsaladcomic.com/(Root-Verzeichnis)

To view the website directly at https://mixedsaladcomic.com, you must either move index.html to the repository root (one level up) or update the Build and Deployment settings in your repository to point to the folder containing index.html.

So my folder MIXEDSALAD was already the root, but my stupid self created a root inside the root. 🤦‍♀️ I thought I had to create a folder named ROOT xD classic beginner mistake!

But now it works, it’s live!! THANK YOU, Guillermodotn! 🙌 Thanks to you, I will stay loyal to GitHub… haha!
