Blue/Green deployment with Istio

In the doc I see Blue green deployment is supported with kubernetes networking only and not using istio. Is this still a limitation?

I am trying to deploy application in blue green deployment model and since we are using istio i am looking at a way to handle it.

Flagger looked good but istio support for blue green deployment is what missing for us to incorporate

Hi. Does latest doc has procedure how to do it?

Well let me elaborate what are we trying to achieve.

Our application is shipped as docker image in helm charts. Users would get v1 of the app in helm chart and is deployed in "Blue" namespace, once v2 is available it should be deployed to "Green" namespace and istio rules should be adjusted.

Once user accepts new version which might take a day or two live traffic needs to be switched to "Green" deployment.

Is this doable using flagger?

Nop, Flagger doesn't work across namespaces. The canary CRD is an extension to the Kubernetes Deployment kind, as deployments are scoped to a single namespace so does a canary release.
