Can the meta tag be allow listed for markdown readmes?

I have this same problem. The meta tag is a method that google can use for site indexing. I have part of a repo that isn't indexed. I tried all the methods that google gives me to show ownership of the site and github has thwarted at every measure. I have no idea why this section of the repo hasn't been indexed in like 5y and I can't force the index.

Same her; As barbj pointed out, sometimes a repo is simply not indexed, and the methods used by google do not work for a repo.
Weirdly though, the repo might be indexed by other search engines, which do not seem to suffer from that.

robots.txt might be another suitable location, if unorthodox?
