How do I add .github/FUNDING.yml to my GitHub?

To enable the Sponsor button on your GitHub repository, add a FUNDING.yml file inside the .github directory. Follow the steps below:

1. Create the .github Folder

If your repository does not already contain one, create a folder named:

.github

2. Create the FUNDING.yml File

Inside the .github directory, create a new file:

.github/FUNDING.yml

3. Add Funding Options

Add the supported funding platforms you want to use:

github: your-username
patreon: your-patreon-id
open_collective: your-collective
ko_fi: your-kofi-id
custom: ["https://your-custom-link.com"]

4. Commit & Push

Run the following commands:

git add .github/FUNDING.yml
git commit -m "Add FUNDING.yml"
git push

5. Sponsor Button Appears

Once pushed to the default branch, GitHub will automatically show a Sponsor button on your repository.

 ├── .github/
 │    └── FUNDING.yml

Just create the file yourself. Go to your repo, hit Add file → Create new file, name it .github/FUNDING.yml, and drop your sponsor links inside (like github: your-username or whatever you’re using).

If the .github folder doesn’t exist, just type it in the filename field and GitHub will create it. That’s literally it.
